What makes you feel alive? Finding your purpose.

Don’t ask what the world needs, ask what makes you come alive and then go and do that because what the world needs is people who are alive“- Howard Thurman, influential African-American author, philosopher, theologian, educator, and civil rights leader.

I think we often get blocked around our “purpose” because we put the condition on it that our purpose needs to be something we can live off, or we need to be “successful” in it in the eyes of the world. But what if our purpose was simply whatever lights us up and makes us happy, and therefore those around us.

Here’s a really short and simple way of helping you home in on what you are here for/what brings you the most satisfaction and thereby also helps those around you.  I’ve found this exercise really helpful so wished to share it.

‘The Life Purpose Exercise’

List two of your unique personal qualities; examples could be creativity and wisdom
1) _____________________
2) _____________________

List two ways you enjoy expressing these qualities when interacting with others; such as to support and to inspire
1) __________________
2) __________________

Now, imagine the world is perfect right now. What does this look like to you? How is everyone interacting with each other? What does it feel like?
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
(Write your answer as a statement in the present tense. E.g everyone is living in harmony with each other and the earth and supporting each other to be all that they can be.)

Now combine the three subdivisions of this and make it into a paragraph.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
E.g “My purpose in life is to use my creativity and wisdom to support and inspire others to live more in harmony with themselves, each other and the world around them
